NOTES FOR THE LIVE PERFORMER:

You, dear performer, work for Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

You handle these objects as though they are documents in a work visa application. You have no attachments to the objects, processing them is merely a part of your job. You do so as quickly as possible, with the routine-level of inspection, cutting corners whenever possible. Above all, you want pass off the file to someone else so that it is no longer your responsibility.

—-

How do you perform when you’re not even in the country? Featuring highly personal objects from my still-intact bedroom in MontrĂ©al, this performance in absentia queers the notion of possession to illustrate my experience as a temporary foreign worker in visa limbo.

“Elle’s piece was well received! The audience laughed a lot at her stories, and were really eager to take all of the objects. An audience member pretended to eat her vibrator from a bowl.”
