NOTES FOR THE LIVE PERFORMER:
You, dear performer, work for Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
You handle these objects as though they are documents in a work visa application. You have no attachments to the objects, processing them is merely a part of your job. You do so as quickly as possible, with the routine-level of inspection, cutting corners whenever possible. Above all, you want pass off the file to someone else so that it is no longer your responsibility.
How do you perform when you’re not even in the country? Featuring highly personal objects from my still-intact bedroom in Montréal, this performance in absentia queers the notion of possession to illustrate my experience as a temporary foreign worker in visa limbo.
“Elle’s piece was well received! The audience laughed a lot at her stories, and were really eager to take all of the objects. An audience member pretended to eat her vibrator from a bowl.”
